Ryan Francis
“Rejection is good for you, so suck it up and learn how to use it as fuel.” Ryan Francis
Los Angeles-born actor Ryan Francis was just a kid when he took up the role of young Peter Pan in the Academy Award nominated blockbuster that still has a cult following today. Growing up in the industry, you’d think that Ryan is unaproachable or has drank the coolaid for too many years but nothing could be farther from the truth. Ryan has been a friend of ours for over 20 years and he is the same today that he was when we first met. Even at the height of his career as a young actor, he was recognized as a very responsible and respectful kid. In this city it’s hard to maintain that sort of reputation when you’ve been in the “In Crowd” for so long. Ryan has been an inspiration to us for a long time because he is always striving to be better, do better, create amazing content, be a great resource for his friends and family and take on new projects big and small. Whether it’s an original Miller Light commercial or a feature he has directed or a project he has produced, he always maintains an amazing attitude and has the great quality of bringing talented people together. Today, Ryan continues to perfect his craft and is set to be featured in a few big productions. In addition, he has taken on a new role as a developer but we will wait to update you guys on that when we go to the grand opening of his new Residencial building.
Where are you from originally?
Proud to say that I am a Hollywood California native! Born and Raised in the great city of angels.
Worst advice you’ve ever received and why?
You’ve got time. Not sure why anyone would ever say such a thing. Procrastination is what stops so many of us from accomplishing our goals. We don’t have time because time flies so we have to make every day count.
Best advice you’ve ever received and why?
Be on time! Being on time means that you planned ahead and are respecting other peoples time. In a competitive city like Los Angeles, it is critical that you stand out from the rest and one way to do that is to always be on time and be prepared. It’s just the right thing to do.
Best advice you’ve given that had a positive impact and the person shared it with you?
“Don’t worry about useless voices” I should find the fb message. This was in high school and they reached out like 15 years later with a really touching message. That has always stuck with me because everyone has an opinion and a lot times people project their own lives on you so its really important to be secure in your own voice. If you aren’t secure then thats where the work begins. Find your voice, your style etc and stay firm like an old tree that is rooted. Otherwise you’ll be flying off everytime someone shares their opinions or ideas with you.
Biggest hurdles and how you overcame them and the lessons learned through the challenges.
Distraction. Staying as focused as possible, while open to the signs the universe is giving me. Focus is really just half the battle because there are so many fun distractions all around me all of the time. Saying no has become an art form for me that I’ve really had to practice. One thing that helps is having a clear vision for what you want and a solid outline and timeline for how to get there. Knowing that helps me stay focused and accountable.
A time you almost gave up and how you got through it and didn’t give up?
Honestly… I never give up. If it’s something I truly want. I’ll get it. And I won’t stop until I do. I cant thank my parents for that because they taught me to keep going, no matter how difficult it may be.
If you weren’t doing the work you are doing, what else would you be doing & why?
Pro baseball player. Natural athlete. Had many division one schools and professional scouts interested out of high school… As I was finishing up my last season on a show on NBC. Sports are still a big part of my life so that passion and interest never went away.
Most important people in your journey and how they affected your life up until now?
Mother and father. The epitome of sacrifice unconditional love and full support. I’m regularly reminded how lucky I am to have such amazing parents. They have supported me all of my life through my acting and other ventures and really guided me when I needed them and let me ride it out when they felt I needed the learning experience. Thats just an amazing feeling, knowing you have two solid rocks by your side.
What advice you’d give to the 18-year-old you?
Invent Facebook, Instagram and Uber! How dope would that be, right?!
Do you have a mentor? If so, who is he/she?
My mother. So thankful for her!
Do you do any philanthropic work in LA or have in the past?
I’ve been doing philanthropic work for as long as I’ve been in the business. Whether it’s supporting the arts, animals or kids.
What are some of the most touching experiences you’ve had while doing work with those nonprofits/organizations?
Just being able to help someone and see the appreciation and gratitude. You see it in people’s faces, in the smiles they can’t hide.
How would you like to be remembered?
As a good person who helped make the place we all live better than the day before.
A hidden talent nobody knows…yet. 🙂
Nope. Any talent I have I don’t hide.
